Group of Nagarsheth: Perth's live Garba musical family

Group of Nagarsheth is a Gujarati musical family based in Perth, Western Australia. We sing Navratri Garba, Dandiya and bhajans live, with traditional melodies, harmonium and live dhol, the way Navratri is celebrated in Gujarat. No backing tracks, no playlist: every song on the night is sung live.

Over 30 years of Navratri Garba

The Nagarsheth family's Garba story began in the 1990s in Anand, Gujarat, singing at large Navratri events for crowds of 5,000 and more. After moving to Perth in 2012, the family kept the tradition going, singing for Perth's Gujarati community at Navratri, bhajan and cultural events.

In 2020 the family formed Group of Nagarsheth, registered as the Group of Nagarsheth Association of Western Australia Inc., and began hosting its own Navratri Garba nights in Perth. In 2025 the group led the music for Navratri at Shree Jalaram Mandir, singing for around 500 people on the floor.

Today, father and son Vipul and Darp Nagarsheth lead the music, joined by some of Perth's best dhol and rhythm players.

Ratri Before Navratri 2026

Our next Garba night is Ratri Before Navratri on Saturday 10 October 2026, 7–11 PM at Bentley Community Centre, Nyamup Way, Bentley WA 6102: the night before Navratri begins. Garba and Dandiya with live music, Indian street food, free parking, and kids under 5 free. Everyone is welcome, no dance experience needed.
